About the Joint Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

Evaluations and Accreditations

The Joint Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kagoshima University, implements the continuous promotion and improvement of the quality of training system and facilities, and is regulatory evaluated by the Japanese and International accreditation bodies in order to be approved the quality. The delegation of auditors in the bodies assess the conformity of the tangible and intangible elements by the documentary examination, site visits and interviews based on the self-evaluation report and the establishments should clear all the requirements. Accreditations guarantee the excellence of our education system and facilities, and the development of human resources with global competencies.

EAEVE

EAEVE (European Association of the Establishments for veterinary Education) is one of the official international accreditation bodies (another one is AVMA-COE) for veterinary education, and the mission of the EAEVE is to evaluate, promote and further develop the quality and standard of veterinary education. The evaluation system gives assurance to: 1) the public – to know they can trust the quality of graduating veterinary surgeons and the service they deliver, 2) veterinary students – to know their education reaches agreed standards, and 3) veterinary establishments – to know that their curricula and facilities reaches agreed benchmarked levels. In June 2019, our faculty obtained the EAEVE accreditation as the first veterinary school in Japan and Asia for a period of 7 years. In December 2025, the EAEVE accreditation is renewed as the first veterinary school outside Europe, and it remains valid until December 2032.

JUAA

JUAA (Japanese University Accreditation Association) evaluates and gives accreditation at the institutional or faculty/graduate school levels for the quality assurance of Japanese higher education. The evaluation for veterinary education is 1) to maintain and improve the quality of the veterinary undergraduate programs, and 2) to give the guarantee of the quality which meets the social needs and global norms. Our faculty has been accredited by the JUAA as the first National University Cooperation since April 2019 through March 2026. This is also the first accreditation to the Joint Faculty (Joint Education Program).Ω

As the accreditation period (1 April 2019 to 31 March 2026) was due to expire, the JUAA underwent a renewal assessment in October 2025, and it has been confirmed that our educational programmes continue to meet the required standards. The new accreditation period is from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2033.

AAALAC International

AAALAC (Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care) International is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs. AAALAC endorses the use of animals to advance medicine and science when it is done in an ethical and humane way to achieve excellence in animal care and use. The institutes in our faculty has been accredited by the AAALAC International since June 2017.
