Internal Medicine Department

As a discipline, internal medicine covers a broad range of complex health disorders. As an Internal Medicine Department for companion animals, we deal with clinical presentation of non-specific symptoms, such as decreased activity levels, inappetence, vomiting, and diarrhea. These are complaints commonly seen in an internal medicine department; however, we also offer specialized veterinary diagnosis and treatment in the areas outline below. We have established Cardiovascular (dealing with cases of valvular diseases, arrhythmia, and other related conditions), Oncology (dealing with neoplastic diseases), Urology (urinary tract diseases), Hematology (diseases of the blood system), and Neurology Units. The Internal Medicine Department can all treat dermatological, and endocrinological disorders, a range of infectious diseases, respiratory tract complaints, and gastroenterological disorders.

Soft Tissue Surgery

We offer surgery for a wide range of conditions. We use surgery to treat conditions on the liver and biliary tract, alimentary canal (esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, and anus), mammary glands, respiratory tract (including pulmonary and mediastinal disorders), and abdominal wall and diaphragm (including hernias). Below, we list some of the forms of surgery we provide (together with examples of the condition that the surgery addresses).

  • Thoracic surgery (including procedures for duct arteriosus [PDA], thoracic duct injury)
  • Gastrointestinal surgery (including procedures for foreign bodies and perforations in the alimentary canal)
  • Abdominal surgery (including procedures for portosystemic shunts [PSS], diaphragmatic hernias, and gastric dilatation-volvulus syndrome [GDV])
  • Urological surgery (including procedures for urinary stones or urolithiasis, bladder stones, and subcutaneous ureteral bypass [SUB])
  • Oncologic surgery (including procedures for tumors in the lungs, esophagus, stomach, intestines, livers, bladders, thyroid glands, adrenal glands, and mammary glands, and on the body surface)
  • Dermatology (including procedures for trauma/ external injuries, and dermatoplasty)

We can also deworm animals with parasitic conditions such as filariasis.

Orthpedic Surgery

The musculoskeletal system is the driver of animal movement. It comprises the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and associated nerves, as well as the muscles. Our Orthopedics Department treats musculoskeletal system disorders and injuries.
Our range of orthopedic services is wide. We treat all types of dislocations and fractures, and joint diseases. For example, we can offer tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO; for patients with ruptured anterior cruciate ligament), extra-articular techniques, patellar luxation reduction, triple pelvic osteotomy (for patients with hip dysplasia). Our Orthopedics Department can deal with both internal diseases of the musculoskeletal system—for example, intractable lameness, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis— and traumatic conditions—for example, intervertebral disc herniation (which can be treated with hemilaminectomy and ventral slot technique), spinal cord injuries, and non-neoplastic spinal cord disorders.
